Known locally as ‘The Junction’, this picturesque free campsite marks the magnificent confluence of the Buchan River and the legendary Snowy River. It’s a place of profound tranquility, where the gentle sounds of flowing water provide a constant, calming soundtrack to your stay. The campground is set within a spacious, grassy clearing along the riverbanks, making it an ideal location for setting up camp and unwinding away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.The site is perfectly suited for a range of outdoor activities. The relatively shallow embankments provide easy access to the pristine river waters, inviting visitors for a refreshing swim on a warm day, or to simply paddle and relax. Anglers will find it a rewarding spot to cast a line in hopes of catching local fish species. For the more adventurous, Balley Hooley serves as a popular finishing point for multi-day kayaking and rafting expeditions that begin further up the Snowy River, such as the trip from McKillops Bridge. The surrounding area is crisscrossed with short walking tracks that lead to different scenic points along the river, offering beautiful views and opportunities to spot local wildlife and wildflowers, especially during the summer months.

While the campground provides a genuine back-to-nature experience, it is equipped with essential facilities to ensure a comfortable stay, including drop toilets, picnic tables, and wood barbecues with fire pits at most sites.   • Road Access: Accessible by 2WD vehicles in dry conditions, but caution is advised. The final access roads are unsealed, steep, and can be narrow in places. Not recommended for very large rigs without prior inspection.

  • Camping Permitted: Yes, suitable for tents, camper trailers, caravans, and RVs.
  • Maximum Overnight Stays: No specified limit, but standard Parks Victoria fair use policies apply.
