Beveridge Rest Area Northbound: A Convenient Free Camp

For travellers heading north from Melbourne along the Hume Freeway, the Beveridge Rest Area (Northbound) serves as the perfect first stop to take a break after navigating city traffic. It’s a widely used and practical spot for a quick rest or a full overnight stay, allowing drivers to manage fatigue before continuing their journey towards regional Victoria or Sydney. Its location, directly off the freeway, makes it incredibly accessible for all types of vehicles, especially caravans, motorhomes, and RVs that require a designated, safe place to park for up to 24 hours. The rest area is conveniently situated opposite a large service centre complex, giving travellers easy access to fuel, food, and other amenities without a major detour.

The site itself is a spacious, sealed bitumen area that can comfortably accommodate numerous large rigs, providing ample room for easy parking and manoeuvring. The facilities, while basic, are functional and cover the essentials for a self-sufficient traveller. A public toilet block is available and generally kept in a serviceable condition, and rubbish bins are provided to encourage visitors to leave the area clean. As is common with free rest areas, there is no access to power or potable water, so it is crucial to be self-contained. Always ensure your water tanks are full and you have a power source like solar or a generator if needed. The ground is mostly level, but packing levelling ramps is always wise. While its proximity to the highway means some traffic noise is expected, the sheer convenience of this stop makes it an excellent, cost-free choice for a safe and legal overnight park-up.
