Potable Water Locations Tasmania Free Refill Stations & Caravan Taps
Location Information
Here is the comprehensive directory for Tasmania.
Crucial Tasmania Water Rules:
-
The "TasWater" Stations: Tasmania has an excellent network of designated blue/green Water Filling Stations. These are specifically designed for water carters and RVs, offering high-flow, clean potable water. They are your best option.
-
The "Hose" Connector: Most TasWater stations use a standard 20mm (household) tap thread, but some high-flow outlets use a 25mm thread. Carry a plastic or brass adaptor to convert 25mm down to your 20mm hose connector.
-
Winter Freezing (Central Highlands): If travelling in winter (June–August) through Miena, Liawenee, or Cradle Mountain, external taps may be frozen solid until midday. Fill up in lower-altitude towns (Deloraine, New Norfolk) before climbing the plateau.
-
Bruny Island & Remote Coasts: Water on Bruny Island and the far West Coast is scarce. Many campgrounds rely on rainwater tanks which may be empty or require boiling. Fill your tanks before boarding the ferry or heading deep west.

How to verify a tap in TAS
-
Look for the Logo: The official TasWater stations are usually well-signposted with the blue/green TasWater logo. These are monitored for water quality.
-
The "Farm" Tap: In rural Tasmania, you might see taps on fences of farms. Do not use these. They are often connected to dam water (for stock) or untreated rainwater. Only use taps in designated public reserves, dump points, or official filling stations.
-
Hose Length: At some TasWater carter sites (e.g., depots), the filling point might be set back from the fence. A 20m hose is standard requirement here.
